There are hundreds of websites and advertisements out there trying to lure unsuspecting students into programs and schools to become a game tester, and there's even a TV centered around it.
It's such easy bait that many students buy into the dream, hoping to end up in what sounds like a perfect job.
Unfortunately, as many game developers will tell you, pro beta testing or game testing isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Quality Assurance, or QA as it's called in the industry, comes with a lot of negatives that students aren't aware of as they pursue the rosy picture in their minds.
I've worked with a lot of great people who are game testers, and while it may be a good career for some, for most of my students that I advise it's not a wise choice. These are a few reasons for this, and there are some better options that I tend to steer students towards instead. The first main drawback is that the work is actually not nearly as fun as you would think; on the contrary, it's quite tedious.
Students who imagine game testing imagine it being similar to when they have their friends over to play some games - sitting around, playing a few matches here and there, and trying out the newest games when they come out.
Working in QA isn't anything like this.
The primary purpose of quality assurance is to find bugs and problems in the game, such as the game crashing, glitches in the images, or incorrect behavior. In order to find these bugs, QA has to play the game over and over and over again.
For example, if you were working on Call of Duty, then when the first level was ready to play, then you would play through it.
Then you would play through it again.
And again.
You'd try to do something slightly different each time, waiting for the game to crash.
You will probably end up playing the same level literally hundreds of times.
This is a far cry from the rosy picture most people have of testers and has a feeling much closer to assembly line work.
The second main drawback of being in QA is low pay.
Of all the careers in games covered by the Game Developer Magazine industry salary survey done every year, QA consistently ranks the lowest, at over $26,000 lower than the next lowest discipline.
Even leads and experienced QA personnel aren't paid very much. While money isn't everything, this is a huge drawback when considering which path in games.
The final drawback is that a career in QA has limited upward mobility.
Some QA testers manage to move into other career paths like design or production, but most QA testers are stuck in QA the length of their career, no matter how skilled they become. It makes it very difficult to move into another discipline, and since everyone wants to be a QA tester, there isn't much negotiating power to move to other companies as well.

Really, then why don't you spend time with me? Answer: I prefer not to.
I support my wife in being a mother, and when the boys are old enough, she will return to her career.
In the meantime, these two boys are loved and well cared for.
Also, for me, I get healthy meals, I live in a home where there is patience, long conversations, and a fun environment.
That, I believe, is the goal: a fun environment.
This supports our home life, where we spend a relatively vast amount of time as a family raising our children.

Not only is this in my opinion a beautiful discovery which is an excellent demonstration of the interconnected nature of mathematics, it makes what seemed like the much more complex Pascal's tetrahedron easy to work with.
In fact, it is these links that have helped mathematicians to modify the formula for Pascal's triangle to one which applies to Pascal's tetrahedron and even to suit higher dimensions, so it is certainly a very powerful discovery!
How to Delete Favorites Toolbar in Internet Explorer
Most toolbars, especially in the Internet Explorer take up a lot of space, thus giving you lesser space to see websites and web pages.
There is the Favorites bar, the Menu Bar, and sometimes, numerous third party toolbars that you decided to install.
Having too many toolbars will fill up most of your viewing area.
If you want to delete the third party toolbars, the easiest way you can do that is go to the Control Panel, click on the Add/Remove Programs, look for the toolbars you wanted to delete and then click on the Remove or Delete Program. However, if you want to delete the Favorites toolbar because you do not find it very useful for your internet use, then there are several ways you can do it. You can easily hide your Favorites toolbar by doing the following step: Open your Internet Explorer application. Look for the 'View' tab. It is one of the tab included n your Menu bar. Click on the View menu.
Look for and select the option for Toolbar.

Top Five Best iPhone Endless Runners
Thought I would mix things up a bit and do a top five list of my favorite games in one of my favorite genres, endless runners.
I'm not sure of the real name for them, but endless runners will do. Usually the idea of an endless runner game is to get as far as possible before your character dies. And your character will die at the end, there is no chance to really win the game. #5 - Solipskier - This is a different twist on the endless runner game.
While most games have you controlling the character, in Solipskier you are controlling the ground that the character is skiing on.
By swiping up and down you control the height of the ground allowing the skier to pass through gates and avoid walls. You can even lift your finger up and create a pit that the skier will hopefully sail over.
#4 - Tiny Wings - A game I've already reviewed is Tiny Wings.
While not really a runner, it still fits the bill because it is endless.
Or at least so far as I've been able to get it is endless:) You control a little bird swooping up and down hills trying to get as far as possible before the sun sets.
Gorgeous graphics and beautiful music make this a standout game.
#3 - Temple Run / Temple Run:Brave - Another game that I've reviewed before and I still find myself playing it from time to time.
The idea in the first game is that you are running away from a group of monkey.

things after what I'm guessing is robbing a temple. Temple Run features tilt, swipe, and tap controls with each doing a different thing. Having a power up system as well as utilities that will grant various bonuses will keep you coming back.
The DLC is still around, but it isn't really a necessity to buy anything to have fun playing the game.
It looks like Temple Run: Brave is just a reskinned version of the game featuring characters from the recent Pixar movie "Brave." I haven't given that version a download just yet but when I do, I'll update the review with my thoughts.
#2 - Jetpack Joyride - An endless runner with a sense of humor, Jetpack Joyride has you controlling Barry with the aforementioned jet - pack as you escape science lab. As you go along you must avoid missiles flying your way along with electric rappers and lasers that cover most of the screen.
You also gather coins, vehicles power ups, and spin tokens that can be used after your character dies. There is a bit of a IAP, but it isn't terribly bad or intrusive.
I've played this game far too much when I should have been sleeping. #1 - Canabalt - Canabalt is the game that I would consider to be one of the best examples of the endless runners genre that exists for the iOS.
Featuring a retro style graphics and such an excellent soundtrack that the game even recommend wearing headphones.
You are running along the rooftops of a city that appears to be under attack by aliens. As you run your character must jump over the gaps between buildings, break through windows, and leap over what look like cars that are dropped from the sky. As the distance increases, so does your running speed until it feels like you are almost out of control. By that point, I usually try to run into some convenient boxes to keep the speed down since my reflexes aren't what they used to be.
The game also looks especially great on the iPad and since it offers a bigger screen you won't be blocking as much with your fingers as you play. They have all kinds of wild crazy colors and shapes to choose. Some of these watches even have crazy alarms and loud and crazy sounds that only a child could appreciate.

Choose a phrase that means something to you, take the first letters of each word and convert some into characters. The SANS Institute recommends passwords be changed at least every 90 days, and that users not be allowed to reuse their last 15 passwords.
They also suggest that users be locked out of their accounts for an hour and a half after eight failed log-on attempts within a 45-minute period.
Train users to recognize social engineering techniques used to trick them into divulging their passwords.
Hackers are known to impersonate tech support to get people to give out their passwords or simply look over users' shoulders while they type in their passwords. 3. Secure your VPN Data encryption and identity authentication are especially important to securing a VPN.
Any open network connection is a vulnerability hackers can exploit to sneak onto your network. Moreover, data is particularly vulnerable while it is traveling over the Internet. Review the documentation for your server and VPN software to make sure that the strongest possible protocols for encryption and authentication are in use. Multi-factor authentication is the most secure identity authentication method.
The more steps your users must take to prove their identity, the better. For example, in addition to a password, users could be required to enter a PIN.
Or, a random numerical code generated by a key-fob authenticator every 60 seconds could be used in conjunction with a PIN or password. It is also a good idea to use a firewall to separate the VPN network from the rest of the network.
Other tips include: Use cloud-based email and file sharing instead of a VPN.
Create and enforce user-access policies. Be stingy when granting access to employees, contractors and business partners.
Make sure employees know how to secure their home wireless networks.
Malicious software that infects their devices at home can infect the company network via an open VPN connection.
Before granting mobile devices full access to the network, check them for up-to-date anti-virus software, firewalls and spam filters. 4.
Actively manage user access privileges Inappropriate user-access privileges pose a significant security threat.
Managing employee access to critical data on an ongoing basis should not be overlooked.
More than half of 5,500 companies recently surveyed by HP and the Ponemon Institute said that their employees had access to "sensitive, confidential data outside the scope of their job requirements." In reporting on the study's findings, eWeek.
com said "general business data such as documents, spreadsheets, emails and other sources of unstructured data were most at risk for snooping, followed by customer data.
" When an employee's job changes, make sure the IT department is notified so their access privileges can be modified to fit the duties of the new position. 5.
Clean up inactive accounts Hackers use inactive accounts once assigned to contractors and former employees to gain access and disguise their activity. The HP/Ponemon Institute report did find that the companies in the survey were doing a good job deleting accounts once an employee quit or was laid off.
Software is available for cleaning up inactive accounts on large networks with many users.
